Open Source Software

Open source software has got to be the best thing since sliced bread.  I use it whenever I can, in preference to secret source software.  Open source is reliable, free, verifiable, fixable, and can't be taken away.  In addition to using it, I also contribute to it, by reporting bugs, and selectively adding the functionality I want.  Below is a partial list of open source software I use and endorse.

• Apache web server
• Mysql database
• SQLite database
  
• Perl programming language, and Open Perl IDE as a perl debugging and editing shell.
  
• The Seamonkey browser family
  
• Cobian Backup pc backup software
  
• VNC remote desktop and ZeBeDee secure tunneling software.  My own largest contribution to open source is ZVNC, which integrates ZeBeDee and VNC.
  
• Pidgin instant messenger
• Popfile spam filter
  
• CVS version control system, and Tortise CVS windows desktop interface
• Eclipse Java development environment.
• Notepad2 simple text editor, and my own extension, NotepadCrypt, which adds AES encryption.
