  Non-Uniform Rational B-splines (NURBS) have been adopted by a number of 
  international standards over recent years: PHIGS PLUS, STEP, CGM Addenda, 
  and GKS Review. These groups have identified NURBS as the technology for 
  curve and surface representation. The NURBS library is a collection of 
  functions and routines to exploit this technology.
  
  

• Some NURBS based models (.tar.Z)

• On the SGI "developer toolbox" cd, get the nurbsTutor program, found in CDROM/src/tutorials/custEducation/opengl2/src/nurbs/. It has a graphic interface that lets you create and manipulate nurbs curves; and see the effect of all the parameters on the curve. This program broke the mental logjam for me!

• ..and of course, OpenGL supports nurbs.
